CC&CC - CHALLENGE - USE One BUTTON, BOW, FLOWER

Today is my post for Chocolate, Coffee and Cards and our sponsor this fortnight is the fabby: Meljen

I really love Meljen's images and already own quite a few. They are always so sweet and fun. The image I was lucky enough to use is: Steampunk Girl isn't she wonderful? I coloured her with Promarkers.

The theme for this challenge is 'one button, flower, bow'
To join us for this challenge and to find all the details please visit us HERE.

I really wanted to go full steampunk if possible, but of course needed to include the required items, so here's how I did it: The flowers hopefully look like they are made from metal.

There is a larger flower
And a smaller flower
To create the flowers I took a basic lilly cut file and cut out two pieces of each size out of white card (and a tiny piece to go with the larger one). Tiny little dashes were added through the centre of each petal and I also scored a line on the back of each petal, so that the line became a raised line on the top/front. I then adhered together.

Guilding wax was then rubbed (my first play with this..Yay...Sooo much fun and smells divine!) all over. It caught on the raised bit perfectly, leaving a darker line, this area is meant to look like metal welded together, hence adding the little liquid pearl dots to act as the bolts/rivets.

I also added some rivets (liquid pearls) to the centres, to look as though they are bolted together.

Her bow which I hope also looks like metal is on her hat (on top of where some goggles normally are). This was made out of white card, painted with gold acrylic paint and liquid pearls added.

And my favourite thing I think I've ever made, is the little pocket watch in the left hand corner!!! That in fact started life as a plain white wooden button! :)

I drew on the button with permanent fine line pen and then dusted the face with perfect pearls. I then painted the edges with gold acrylic paint. The top pieces are one half of a metal holed brad (not sure of proper name, sorry) and a tiny ring, that were slightly shaped and then hot glued together, yes very fiddly and i burnt my fingers lots...hehe...But worth it I think :)

The cogs and gears background were all the offcuts from my hubbys Christmas card mat, just stuck onto some paper and distressed. And the border edge was a digi border from Tiddlyinks that I picked in a win some time ago :) I highlighted a few of the swirls on the border in gold too.

Everything was popped together and that was it finished :) I hope you like it as much as I do.

Materials Used:
Meljen digi image - Steampunk Girl
Distress inks - Vintage photo & Walnut stain
Promarkers
White cardstock
Tiddlyinks steampunk digi border
The cog background are left overs, after cutting the mat used in my husbands Christmas card ;p

DP from stash (yellow paper right at back layer has faint writing on to)
White Button
Bronze guilding wax
Gold Acrylic paint
Platinum liquid pearls
Perfect Pearls - Perfect Pearls colour
Fine line permanent marker
Metal brad (not sure what the actual name is, the type that has a hole through and two sides that push together either side of your item to hold it in place)
Small ring

I really hope you come visit us at CC&CC and play along with our challenge, I can't wait to see everyones creations

  1. Fab, fab, fab, Sam (did I mention it is fab?). Such an amazing design with so many scrummy details. And of course I love your little pocket watch. So clever and you have to look twice to realise it started life as a button. You must have a very steady hand to create the face and then paint so neatly around the edges. If I had attempted this it..............well I probably wouldn't have even attempted it! Well aware of my limitations thank you very much! :)
