CC&CC # 62 - YIPES STRIPES

Today is my post for Chocolate, Coffee and Cards and our sponsor this fortnight is the quirky QKR Stamps

The theme for this challenge is 'Yipes, Stripes'

To join us for this challenge and to find all the details please visit us HERE.

The image I used is Tropical FishAnd as they were already stripey, they were perfect :)

Sorry phone photo xx
I got a bit carried away when colouring them...lol..And experimented with lots of different contrasting colours seeing how they would blend. I was really pleased with how they turned out and they now have lots of additional stripey colours, but as I already had this layout in mind, they were a little bright for the papers I was using, so I needed to dull them down a little.

Originally, it was going to be a fish tank and then, with these papers I thought it looked more like a port hole, looking out under water :) So to dull the image down I decided to create some water.

I used ....Wait for it....Hair gel to get the water effect. I only had a light green hair gel, but as it was for water I thought that would be fine and help dull the colours more than clear gel. The perfect thing with hair gel, is it gives the wonderful bubbles and ripples like you would get in water, it also smells great and is fun to squidge hehe..

I literally got a clear bag just a bit bigger than my hole. Reinforced all of the edges by folding over and taping and then plopped, yes plopped...lol..in some hair gel. I carefully sealed the top and wiped any excess away. I then attached it to the back of the hole and then attached this over the image. These layers were then mounted onto a card already layered with a red bubble type DP.

The sentiment was cut, curled and mounted on 3D foam pads. I love the fact the sentiment is such a happy one, yet the fish look so miserable hehe, makes me chuckle, but then I am odd...lol..

I hope you like it, I can't wait to use gel on more things!

Materials Used:
Digital papers from Echo Park Here and Now collection / Samantha Walker, hoot cool papers
Promarkers
Gel from bathroom ;p

I really hope you come visit us at CC&CC and play along with our challenge, I can't wait to see everyone's creations. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's projects, wowie they are fab :)

  22. I just love the way your coloured your fish. I would love to see them on something bright as well, but it's very clever the way you toned them down to match the colours you were already working with. Love the hair gel in a bag idea.
