SHABBY CHIC MUMS :)

Hey Everyone :)

A bit of a quiet week this week for me in blogland, but you can be sure I'm busy beavering away behind the scenes :)

I just wanted to make a quick post to share some mothers day gifts I made for my Mum and hubby's mum this mothers day!

The letters are paper mache letters brought on sale in my local Hobbycraft I think it was about £1.25 for the 3 letters in a nice box (which I'm sure will be used for something else...hehe)

The base's are made from the packing box from some reed diffusers. Stuffed with foam (the type used to package goods in boxes) and then a layer of thick cardboard placed over the base to make it all nice and secure.

The bases were fully covered in pages from an old encyclopedia and as both of our mums love their gardens, the pages are all about plants :)

The letters were covered in patches of different DP. It was all then given a couple of coats of a white wash of paint. The swirls, hearts and butterflies were created using bits of a mask and polyfilla (yes the type you would get in the hardware store) mixed with a little PVA to make it a bit stronger. I then rubbed a little gilding wax over these areas and around the edges.

The bigger flowers are all handmade and these also have a wash of paint on them.

A bit of lace, distress inks and some sepia photos of their kids and grand kids, which were distressed to age them and clear embossed to protect them, and they were finished.
(the last photos are different for my mum and hubby's mum, to show my brother and hubby's sister)

They both loved them, which made me super happy as they took a long time to make...hehe....Mind you it was the first time I had made anything like this and was completely winging it hehe xx

  2. This project is just beautiful and so unique. I am sure both Mum's loved it. You 'winged it' well. Pollyfiller and PVA - saw somewhere today talcum powder (for babies) and PVA works well as well, and you can add acrylic paint to it for colour!! Why did I buy textured paste!! So pleased you entered it at Unstampabelles June challenge - hope to see you back!
