DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY CARD (FROM US)

Good morning everyone :)

My daughter loves retro or vintage things, also did I mention She loves pugs?! Lol

She also loves things that are different and out of the norm.

So i decided to make her a completely different style of card. I wanted to make something that she could keep out on her shelf if she wanted, even after her birthday had passed :)

I decided to use a photo of a pug (obviously!!) but didn't want it to just look like a photo of a pug plonked on the front of a card, with no thought, but I wanted the central thing to be the picture of the pug.
So I decided to make a postcard, well something that looked very much like an old, aged, vintage postcard, as of course postcards, are just photos plonked on a bit of card...lol....But its how they are meant to be :)

So first I had to find a useable photo of a pug that looked 'holidayish' (OK not a word I'm sure, but you get what I mean) I found this cute pug with a sailor outfit on, it was perfect.

I then created and printed out the postcard along with a real looking back to the postcard and the pug on the front and added the old style 'wish you were here' sentiment.

I then aged both sides of the card with 'vintage photo' distress ink.
I glazed the front of the postcard with a PVA glaze (I'm now hooked...lol) and i didn't dilute it, as I wanted the lines to be left in the dried glue as I wanted it to have that really aged look and feel to it, I loved how it came out, it's a bit difficult to see in the pics.

I then added a piece of cardboard (cereal box!) between the two layers and stuck securely, this just gave it a stiffer feel.

I made a stamp using my daughters head (side view) and added the 18 as the pretend price (but really her age :p)

Being a postcard, card, this won't obviously stand up on its own, so I made this cute little Lorri Whitlock Easel for it to stand on. I had to adapt it slightly as the feet sat too wide apart for the postcard to sit on, so I created a little central wedge, to stick in at the back, to push the glueing area further apart and in effect make the feet closer :)

I opted to print out some old looking newspaper and cut the easel out of this, I added some distress ink (walnut stain this time, as I didn't want the card to get lost on it) to really age it and then stuck it all together.

I made cute little flowers out of the same newspaper printed paper and distressed with 'tattered rose & walnut stain', added some button centres, dusted with perfect pearls (although you can't see this or how lovely it looks in the photos, it just looks like dirty marks on the buttons which I can assure you its not...hehe..) and a PVA glaze (told ya I was hooked!) and hot glued them to the sides, with a few pearls on one side, to just make the easel something a bit more special.

Oh and i coloured the backs of the flowers with a promarker, just so that there wasn't an awful bright white side on show!

I still can't believe that every piece of this project started off as plain white paper!!!!

I hope you like it, thanks for looking
xx
