EVERY PIECE A PIECE OF PAPER ;p

Through one of my wonderful new crafty friends, I’ve very recently discovered a wonderful site called 'Milk Coffee' and they are having a paper piecing challenge.

Now other than one very small present a tiddly inks character was holding, I have never ever paper pieced, but it is something that has always intrigued me.

On top of that I have just found out my long time best friend of 24 years!! (She needs a medal for hanging around so long…hehe) has just moved in with her new beau and so I want to quickly create a ‘new home’ card for them :)

So yet again another late night, mad rush crafting session (…I know I love it) and this is my creation.

I had this wonderful birdhouse digi from ‘Doodle Pantry’ and I haven’t used it before, I really can’t wait to let loose with my promarkers on this cute house, but for this project I have decided to give the paper piecing ago. I decided to try and paper piece as much as possible if not all of the card :)

First I printed out lots of the same digi image onto lots of different cards and papers.

I then cut each of the shapes I wanted out, ready to paper piece, wow what a lot of little pieces of paper...hehe...

The main birdhouse shape and its roof are out of a darker brown card and I then layered the front section of the house with a polka dot brown paper.

I cut the house holes so you could see the darker colour behind and to add a bit of depth.  Each of the birds were all cut out of the same floral patterned paper, I just varied the colours, their cute little beaks were originally cut out of orange card, but I really didn't like the look, so I opted to colour their beaks with a promarker instead.

The backing papers which are a soft blue and flower filled green, were both picked to represent the sky and ground! Both were edged with the corresponding colour of distress ink. I added a white strip of dotty embossed card across the centre to tie them together.

And my favvvvvoouuuurrite bit of all were the googly eyes!!!

I've had these sitting about for as long as I can remember, these were brought before my crafting days, I think for a project my oldest daughter (when she was younger) was working on! I have never had anything to use them on, but they suited these little birdies perfectly and added that little element of fun that me and my best friend share :)

The only part not paper pieced was the birdhouse pole, so i'm really pleased

I hope you like it, I had such fun creating it, I can't wait to do more paper piecing now, so thank you 'Milk Coffee' for inspiring me to try something new.

Have you had a go at paper piecing? How did you get on?

Hugs
